The Floating Couple and the Soldier by the Sea

North Promenade and seafront, Aberystwyth

1971 and undated

Aberystwyth's long seafront curves from Constitution Hill past the pier and the castle to the harbour. The Everything Aberystwyth website records two sets of ghosts along it.

The first has a date. On 23 July 1971, the site says, a couple were seen floating silently above the North Promenade. They moved out over the beach and into the sea at high tide. They were taken to be a couple who had been caught and drowned by the tide there in the 1960s. The couple are not named, and the drowning has not been checked against records for this entry.

The second is a young man in a brown army uniform, seen at different points along the front: floating above the rock pools, by the pier, by the Marine Hotel, and near the lighthouse at South Beach. No one has suggested who he was. Both stories come from a single local site and are recorded as thin reports.

The promenade and seafront are public.
