Ballyboley Forest lies just outside Ballynure, a short drive from Belfast. Spirited Isle describes it as a remnant of a once-vast ancient woodland with standing stones, cairns and other megalithic remains. Local legend says the forest is either cursed or protected by a lingering energy tied to an ancient druidic cult, and it is rumoured that blood sacrifices took place under the trees.
Visitors report hearing phantom footsteps and disembodied voices, strange mists that appear without warning, and figures in ancient robes drifting among the shadows. Many describe an overwhelming dread, a feeling of being unwelcome or watched. Some have found themselves disoriented and lost on clearly marked trails.
The cult and sacrifice claims have no source and read as the sort of rumour that gathers around megalithic remains. The reports of experiences are modern and unattributed.
