Priory Methodist Church on Newnham Avenue, Bedford, opened on 5 June 1969. It replaced a small church that had stood on the site since 1953, which in turn replaced a tin mission hut from 1940, and also took over from the 18th century St Paul's Methodist Church on Harpur Street. The name echoes Newnham Priory, which once stood in this part of Bedford.
Mysterious Britain quotes a Bedfordshire on Sunday article by Andrew Watt, "15 ghost sightings in Bedford" (10 March 2015). It says a witness claims to have seen a well dressed man creeping along the back of the church. The figure walked through a wall and left behind a thin veil of smoke. An earlier sighting is said to have described the man wearing tweed clothing.
That is all the record contains. There is no name for the witness, no date for either sighting, and no suggestion who the man might be, so it has been tagged as a single report. It sits close to the site that gives the Newnham Priory cinema ghost its monk, but the sources make no link between the two.
