The Golden Jubilee pub once stood on Cromac Street and Market Street and, like many Belfast bars, had its own ghost story. A barman on duty one quiet afternoon saw a stranger walk in whose clothing was distinctly old fashioned and looked drenched, though the weather was dry. He finished what he was doing, meaning to take the man's order, and when he turned back the bar had fallen silent and the man had gone. There had been no footsteps and no door.
The barman later claimed that he had seen the man clearly enough to recognise his clothes and features, and that the figure was Roger Casement, the Irish revolutionary executed in 1916. No historical link between Casement and the bar has ever been found.
