The Phantom Sailor of the Seven Stars

The Seven Stars, Thomas Lane, Redcliffe

Pub 17th century; ghost undated

The Seven Stars is a small pub on Thomas Lane near Bristol Bridge. Spooky Bristol notes that the abolitionist Thomas Clarkson once gathered evidence against Bristol's slave trade there, which is a well known part of the pub's history.

The ghost story is separate and much thinner. The guide says a sailor in tattered clothes has been seen slumped in a corner seat, vanishing if approached, and that late at night sea shanties drift from the empty bar as if a phantom crew was drinking below deck.

No dates, names or witnesses are given, and the haunting claim is not repeated by any other source found. It is recorded as dubious. The abolition history is the part with documentation, and care is needed not to let a ghost anecdote overshadow it.
