The green lady of Woodrow High House

Woodrow High House, Amersham Common

Legend set in the 17th century; reports 2000s

Woodrow High House at Amersham, also called Elmodesham House in the listing, is reported to be haunted by a green figure said to be Lady Helena Stanhope. Footsteps and mild poltergeist activity are also mentioned, with the era given as the 2000s.

The attached story says Lady Helena took her own life in the grounds after her lover, Sir Peter Bostock, was executed for treason in the seventeenth century. No source read here confirms that either person existed or that such an execution took place, and the details should be treated as legend.

The house is a private residence. The pin is an approximate position for the house near Amersham Common.
