The Causeway Hotel: A Woman a Foot Above the Floor

The Causeway Hotel, Causeway Road, Bushmills

Reports in recent decades

The Causeway Hotel was built in 1836 at the edge of the Giant's Causeway, with whitewashed walls and 28 rooms. Spirited Isle describes guests and staff speaking for generations of otherworldly encounters, apparitions, footsteps in empty corridors and unexplained sounds, said to be mischievous more than menacing.

One visitor rang reception to ask if the hotel was haunted, then admitted he had just seen a woman gliding past his room at least a foot above the ground. A duty manager locking up the dining room late at night heard children laughing and playing near the tables, and the room was empty. Another manager clearing the kitchen heard a loud clatter after moving to the bar and returned to find a single spoon in the middle of a spotless floor. More than one guest has reported a soldier's ghost standing silently in front of a fireplace.
