Caistor Top

Caistor

Undated

Caistor sits at the point where the Lincolnshire Wolds meet the flat land stretching away to the west, a market town built at a genuine geographical boundary, and the high ground known locally as Caistor Top has picked up a general haunted reputation documented by a University of Lincoln student blog project specifically researching the area's ghost stories. The material the project gathered is broad rather than built around any single well-defined case: reports of figures and unexplained sounds on the high ground above the town, without a specific named ghost or clearly identified founding incident to anchor any of it.

This is exactly the kind of accumulated, essentially undocumented local reputation that seems to gather naturally around a lot of England's higher, more exposed ground, elevated positions that offer wide views but also, especially after dark, a genuine sense of isolation and unease that lends itself readily to this kind of vague but persistent story.

It is included here as an honestly thin entry, representing that broader category of local reputation rather than any case with real narrative detail behind it. Caistor Top stands, in that sense, as a useful example of how much of England's paranormal folklore actually looks in its rawest form: not a polished story with a named ghost and a tragic backstory, but simply a place people have, for reasons nobody can now fully explain, come to regard as unsettling after dark.
