The Cannock Chase Pig-Man

Cannock Chase

Alongside its black-eyed child and phantom big cat stories, Cannock Chase has produced a reported humanoid figure unlike either: a creature described as having the head of a pig set upon the body of a man, a spectral pig-man said to have first been seen in the forest as far back as the 1940s and mentioned occasionally in more recent accounts since, a story that has apparently persisted, in some form, for the better part of a century without ever developing into anything more detailed.

No consistent description of the creature's size, behaviour, or exact appearance runs through the various tellings, and no specific location within the Chase, no named witness, and no dated incident with any real detail attached has been traced to anchor the pig-man to a particular time or place within the forest's considerable acreage.

The story sits alongside the equally undocumented Gentleshaw and Hopwas hairy-humanoid reports as evidence of a wider pattern worth noting honestly: Cannock Chase and its surrounding woodland have become something of a general magnet for humanoid cryptid claims of every kind, rather than any single one of these stories being especially well attested on its own merits. The pig-man is recorded here as one thread within that much larger tapestry of Chase folklore, distinctive in its imagery but, like its neighbours, thin on anything beyond the bare claim itself.

Cannock Chase is a public Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
