Lizzie Baillie of Castlecary Castle

Castle Cary Castle, Castlecary, near Cumbernauld

Legend, 17th-century setting

Wikipedia treats the leap into the plaid as a tradition and records that the antiquary Alexander Baillie, born at the castle, had a sister called Lizzie who eloped with a Highland farmer called Donald Graham. The sources differ on how Graham is described, and the ghost is a later addition to a story of an elopement. Anyone wanting to see the castle can only look from the road, as there is no public access.
