The question the green lady asks is a Presbyterian twist on the fairy folk, who in Highland lore were sometimes fallen angels or beings with a soul in doubt. Miller's source is not named, and the farmer's deafness is part of the story: she is heard and he answers by the book. Moriah's Den is not located on modern maps, so the record is set at Cromarty.
