Witchcraft

Janet Cock, Healer of Dalkeith

Dalkeith

1661

According to the Ring and colleagues list, which draws on the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft, her case was characterised as demonic, folk healing, implicated by another witch, maleficium and neighbourhood dispute, with charging also alleged. Her outcome was guilty and executed.

No more detail is given in that source. The entry is kept as a short record from the 1661 Dalkeith trials, alongside Beatrix Leslie and Issobell Fergussone, who were tried in the same year. Also listed for the nearby parish of Crichton is a woman named Eupham Adair, who was accused as a folk healer in 1661 and fled.
