The Black Cat Sightings Around Dunbar

Also known as: Beast of Lammermuir

Dunbar, West Barns, Pinkerton and Spott Road

July 2001 and February to March 2002

The first report was on 26 July 2001, when a caller said he had seen what he called a black jaguar or leopard in a field near Dunbar. He said it leaped an eight foot wall and disappeared into woodland. The second cluster was published by the East Lothian Courier on 1 March 2002. Victor Lough said that two sightings were near West Barns, one on the Stenton to West Barns road, one near Pinkerton and one on the Spott Road near the water filter, all of a large black cat-like animal. He said he was keeping an open mind.

No animal was caught or photographed. The Scottish Big Cats site notes the report of an animal on a hay bale near Whitekirk the previous summer. The pin is on Dunbar and is approximate.
