In proof of the legend the scene is called the Dragon's Den, and a footnote adds that the Dragon is still the name of the part of the parish where Newtown of Pitcairns stands. The author says the Breviary appears to make two St Serfs and that the Dunning one was the later. The same source adds a smaller Serf story in which a robber who had eaten the saint's pet lamb swore innocence over the staff and was answered by a bleat from inside him.
