The Phantom Funeral Coach of Langley Hall

Langley Hall, near Durham

Undated

A directory of Durham haunted places records a phantom coach at Langley Hall, drawn by four black headless horses and said to gallop towards the house. One haunting tale suggests the coach contains a coffin, which would tie it to the widespread British tradition of phantom funerals as death omens, though the source does not say that.

The listing gives no date for any sighting, names no witnesses and calls the hall Victorian. It says only that the legend has become part of local ghost lore. I have not found a second source or any account of who the coffin was meant for.

I tagged this traditional rather than single_report because it reads as an established local legend, but it is a thin one. The pin is a rough position for Langley Hall near Langley Moor and should be treated as approximate.
