Julius Caesar's expeditions of 55 and 54 BC did not reach this area, and the Roman invasion under Claudius came in AD 43, so Pilate could not plausibly have been born here. Wikipedia points out that other places in Spain and Germany make similar claims. The story survives as a local curiosity attached to the yew rather than as a proven tradition of great age.
