The Spectres of Gairloch Parish

Gairloch parish (places not named)

1880s

In the second, a shooting party had engaged beaters, but several who had worked such days before declined, because it was rumoured the evening before that the figure of a strange man in dark blue clothes had been seen walking in the coverts. They thought it a spectre portending a death at the shoot. Happily the day passed without casualty.

Dixon also heard of a young man who in 1883 saw a figure pass him on a dark road, and who took its silence as proof it was a ghost.
