Glenaan lies near Cushendall and is known as the site of Ossian's Grave, a double-chambered horned court cairn at Lubitavish built in the late Stone Age, around 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. The name Lubitavish is given as meaning the corner or band of delight.
Ossian, or Oisin, is a hero of the Fenian cycle taken to Tir na nOg and given eternal life. According to the Glens story he grew to miss Ireland and asked to return, and was warned not to come off his horse or set foot on the land. On arriving at Glenaan he found three hundred years had passed and all his family were gone. His horse stumbled, he fell to the ground, and he instantly aged and died.
The cairn is a monument, but this record is about the legend attached to it.
