The Woman in Grey at Gunsgreen House

Gunsgreen House, Eyemouth

Undated modern reports

The Castles of Scotland entry for Gunsgreen says the building is reported to be haunted by an apparition of a woman in a grey dress. It gives no dates or witness names. Other pages say the house was owned by John Nisbet, a merchant by day and smuggler by night, who lived from 1712 to 1796, and that it was built with cellars opening on to the sea and a hidden chute for tea. Some local writing adds that smugglers and other ne'er do wells have spooked doubters, without naming any person or incident.

There is no connection between the ghost and the smuggling stated in the source, and the woman is not identified. The house is now a visitor attraction.
