The mausoleum's interior is also famous for its echo, which Wikipedia says lasts fifteen seconds after a door is slammed, a record for a man-made structure. That is an acoustic fact, but visitors often describe the place as eerie for it. The broken-legs detail is repeated in several places without a contemporary source and should be read as tradition.
