The Khaki Soldier of the Trooper Inn

Trooper Inn, Froxfield

Reports undated, soldier from about 1914 to 1918

The Trooper Inn stands on the road near Froxfield, a short drive from Petersfield. Great British Life describes it as an old coaching inn whose walls are crowded with photographs of former landlords and film stars.

The haunting it reports is a single figure, a man dressed in First World War khaki who has "returned" both on foot and on horseback. The writer suggests he could be a soldier who died in the war or one who was based at the Bordon barracks nearby, which fits the pub's military name but is guesswork.

The magazine rates it a low scoring haunt, and no source gives a date, a named witness or a description beyond the uniform. It is included as a thin local tradition.
