The Ghosts of Harlech Castle

Also known as: Harlech Castle monk

Harlech Castle

Modern reports, including April 2018

The photograph that put Harlech on the ghost map was taken by Christine Hamlett, who described herself as a medium. It shows one of the castle windows with, she said, a figure in a black cloak or habit leaning out of it. The Daily Post ran it under the question of whether it was a ghostly monk. Suggested explanations for a monk at a secular castle have leaned on the Cistercian abbey of Cymer near Dolgellau, although that is some distance away.

Visitor accounts add other figures. One, dated April 2018, describes a hooded figure near the Prison Tower that seemed to be a woman with what looked like a rope around her neck. Others mention a child with blond hair wearing a red tie, standing next to a dog.

None of these has any identification or corroboration, and the photograph has not been examined independently. They are recorded here as modern reports attached to a castle with a long and bloody history, not as anything more.
