The Bloodstained Stone of Inchinnan

Inchinnan Church, near Renfrew

1685; stain tradition later

Argyll's capture near Inchinnan is a matter of history, while the bloodstain is the folk addition. Stones that keep the marks of a violent death are a widespread motif in Scottish folklore. The same stone is also tied to St Conval's arrival, which is recorded separately.

No source describes the stain being seen by a named person, so it stays a traditional tale.
