The Border Telegraph's Halloween roundup lists Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum for cell doors opening and closing on their own, whistling and other odd happenings. A separate ghost database adds that former prisoners cry out and make contact with visitors, that a piper can be seen or heard playing outside on the battlefield, and that the ghost of a former prisoner called Edwin McArthur is said to threaten visitors and produce a sense of dread.
The Castles of Scotland article on Jedburgh Castle, by contrast, records only the 1285 wedding apparition and mentions none of these. I have found nothing that confirms an Edwin McArthur among the prisoners, so treat the name as part of the ghost tradition and not as a checked historical fact.
