A building that once stood at 7 Church Street in Lancaster's historic core carried a reported tradition, apparently dating from sometime in the twentieth century, of an unseen entity that took nightly walks around the entire premises, its own shuffling footsteps clearly audible as it systematically opened and closed doors along what witnesses consistently described as a fixed, repeating route through the building.
A phantom dog was also occasionally reported on the very same site, a second and quite separate presence sharing the building's overall haunted reputation without any clear connection ever drawn between the shuffling nightly walker and the dog itself.
The building itself no longer stands today, having been demolished at some point since the original reports, which leaves the whole story surviving now purely as a piece of local memory rather than as anything that could still actually be experienced by visiting the site in person, 7 Church Street's own nightly walker persisting only in the retelling rather than in any physical location anyone could still go and stand within.
