The screaming at 2 Dalton Square

2 Dalton Square, Lancaster

Murder 1935; haunting reports since

2 Dalton Square in the centre of Lancaster is a Georgian townhouse now used as council offices, standing on the site of a genuinely grim piece of real local history: a double murder took place there in 1935, an actual documented crime rather than any distant, unverifiable legend of the kind that makes up so much of this collection.

Since that murder, council staff and visitors have reported hearing screams apparently coming from within the building at times when it should be entirely empty of any living occupant, along with separate sightings of a figure seen on the top floor, an unusually specific and genuinely quite recent haunting tradition compared with the area's more diffuse older folklore recorded elsewhere throughout this collection.

What sets 2 Dalton Square apart from most comparable local hauntings is precisely this direct connection to a documented, dated twentieth-century crime, rather than to an undated legend whose actual historical basis, if any, has long since been lost to memory, the screams reportedly heard by council staff tying back directly to a real 1935 tragedy rather than to any inherited, centuries-old tradition.

2 Dalton Square is council office space, not routinely open to the public.
