The Brahan Seer's Prophecy of the Empty Rigs

Between Uig and Ness, Lewis

Prophecy attributed to the 17th century; recorded 1877

The Seaforth Mackenzies owned Lewis from 1610 until it was sold to Sir James Matheson in the 1840s, and Mackenzie ties the Seer closely to that family. The prophecies were written down centuries after the Seer is supposed to have lived, and, as the Wikipedia article stresses, there is no historical evidence for a prophet called Kenneth Mackenzie. A prediction first attested after the events it describes cannot count as evidence of foresight. The record is kept as folklore about the memory of the Lewis clearances.
