In 1980 a family of five moved into a three-storey terraced house on Llewellyn Avenue, Lisburn. The terraces dated from 1906. For two weeks all was well, then the eight-year-old daughter mentioned a kind old lady who lived on the first floor. Her parents dismissed it as imagination.
Days later the mother set aside a skirt with a tear in it, saying she would mend it later, and when the family came home she found it perfectly repaired. From then on the spirit, whom the family called Molly, made her presence known. Cutlery and crockery rattled in the kitchen. In 1983, after the birth of the couple's fourth child, the activity turned more unsettling. The mother heard the upstairs curtains swish open while she was alone downstairs, and a voice said: I am Molly. I am not here to hurt you.
By December 1983 the family decided to leave. As they packed, a gentle voice drifted through the empty rooms: Goodbye, I'll miss you. It is believed that Molly was once a resident of the house.
