The Murdered Farmer's Son on the Road to Billy Wynt

The slope up to the Billy Wynt, Llantrisant

The Billy Wynt is Llantrisant's most distinctive landmark after the church: a round stone tower on the summit above the old town, from which there are views across the Vale of Glamorgan to the Bristol Channel. It is generally said to have been a windmill, and its name is usually explained as a corruption of "belfry" or "wind", though that is disputed.

The climb up to it is steep. According to the summary of Dean Powell's Ghostly Tales of Llantrisant published by Nation.Cymru in 2021, walkers on that slope may feel the presence of a murdered farmer's son. The summary gives nothing else: not his name, nor when he was killed, nor by whom.

This is a thin, single-source story from a modern collection, recorded so that the place is on the map.

The Billy Wynt stands in public open space on the hill above Llantrisant.
