The Ram's Horn Coach House Above Limavady

Site of the Ram's Horn coach house, above Limavady

18th century onward

Spirited Isle describes a small coaching stop on the slopes above Limavady called the Ram's Horn, serving travellers between Derry and the north coast and long carrying an unsavoury reputation. By local tradition it was a gathering place for highwaymen, smugglers and others who preferred shadows to daylight, and robberies on the road were common.

After the building fell into ruin and then vanished, people reported strange activity around the old foundations: sudden voices when no one was there, footsteps on empty gravel and fleeting figures that disappeared when noticed. Several accounts describe men in outdated clothes with faces turned away. Others speak of low conversation or rough laughter heard on still nights long after the building was gone.

The Derry Journal says the former coach house was called the Ram's Horn and was a popular meeting place for criminals, and that when it fell to ruin many believed their ghosts still lurked there. It links it to the Murder Hole Road and Cushy Glen.
