The Grey Lady and the Red-Hooded Nurse of Limavady Workhouse

Former Limavady Union Workhouse and cottage hospital

Workhouse opened 1842; hospital 1932 to 1998; reports undated

The Limavady Union Workhouse opened in 1842 and served as the Limavady Cottage Hospital from 1932 until 1998. It is now maintained as a museum. Visit Causeway Coast and Glens notes that a fever hospital operated on the site during the famine, with an adjacent burial ground.

Spirited Isle gives a handful of accounts. A medium once said she met a grey lady in a corridor before running a psychic development course, which the ghost also attended. The sound of a baby crying has been heard near the old maternity ward. The ghost of a nurse with a red hood has been spotted, and former nurses recalled hearing someone walking with what seemed to be a wooden leg at 3am. Visit Causeway Coast and Glens lists the crying babies and the Red-Hooded Nurse among the site's reputed phenomena.

No date, name or detailed account is attached to any of these, so they are listed as site reputation.
