Richard Jones tells a second Springhill story, set in the same blue room. Years after the sighting of Olivia by Miss Wilson, another guest, a Miss Hamilton, went to bed there. As she began to doze, the room seemed to fill with agitated servants who were pushing and wrangling in whispers. She heard a clicking noise in the wall behind her bed, turned, and saw a door open with a light shining from it. Someone seemed to come out through the light and still the commotion, and all her fear left her. She slept.
In the morning she found there was no door behind the bed. When she told Charlotte Lenox-Conyngham, she was told that there had indeed been a door there, but it had been papered over long since. Jones writes that years later the wallpaper in the blue room was stripped and the hidden door was found. It opened into a powder closet, on the floor of which lay an old pair of gloves and a small pouch containing bullets.
The tale depends on one narrator and has no independent date. Its power is in the later discovery of the closet, which is the sort of confirming detail often attached to ghost stories after the fact, so I hold it as a single account.
