Richard Jones records that in the early years of the 20th century the last generation of Lenox-Conyngham children to live at Springhill were asleep when their nursemaid awoke to find the phantom of Olivia standing over them. The apparition gazed intently at each child in turn, as though checking each one's wellbeing.
The nursemaid felt no fear at all. She was moved by the concern the figure seemed to show. After a few moments, apparently satisfied, the ghost simply faded away.
Jones says the custodians point out that nothing at the house is malevolent, and that the ghost is the oldest and most distinguished resident. Spirited Isle likewise says the grey lady is fond of children and that they are the most likely to see her. The story has no named nursemaid or date, so it stands as one tale in the Springhill set.
