Macbeth's Death at Lumphanan

Lumphanan and Macbeth's Cairn

1057

The battle is historical, recorded in medieval chronicles, but the details of Macbeth's death and the cairn's link to him are traditional. Shakespeare's Macbeth, first performed around 1606, is a fictional drama and moves the final battle to Dunsinane.

The Peel Ring is unrelated to Macbeth in date. The legend is included here because the cairn is a point of local tradition, not because any supernatural event is claimed.
