The Shadowy Black Cat of Margam Forest

Margam Forest, on the hills above Margam

The description of King's book lists, among its stories, a policeman who meets a terrifying spectre in a Neath churchyard, a young mother helped from beyond the grave, a ghostly organ playing in the Gwyn Hall, and "a shadowy black cat" that wanders Margam Forest.

Whether this is a phantom cat in the old sense, or one of the big cat sightings that are common in the forests of south Wales, cannot be told from the summary. The forest covers the hills above Margam and the country park, a large, quiet area where it would be easy to see something dark move between the trees.

It is recorded here as a lead from King's collection that deserves fuller detail.

Margam Forest is managed forestry with public tracks.
