The Mysterious Beast of Lytham

Green Drive area, Lytham St Annes

April-May 2005

The Green Drive area of Lytham St Annes was the site of an unusually well-corroborated big-cat scare during the spring of 2005. Over several weeks spanning April and May that year, more than twenty separate witnesses independently reported sightings of a large, light-coloured, cat-like creature roughly the size of a collie dog, with notably large ears and a distinctly wide mouth, a genuinely consistent description repeated across a sustained span of weeks rather than a single isolated sighting.

The sheer number of independent reports gathered over such a sustained period genuinely sets this case apart from most single-witness big-cat sightings recorded elsewhere throughout this county, a volume of testimony that few comparable cryptid reports in this collection can actually match.

Whether all twenty-plus witnesses genuinely saw the very same individual animal, whether several different animals were actually involved across the six-week period, or whether shared expectation following the earliest reports influenced how later witnesses interpreted what they themselves saw, remains genuinely impossible to establish with any confidence from the surviving record, the Lytham beast standing as one of this collection's more substantially witnessed cryptid cases even without ever being conclusively identified.

The Green Drive residential area is publicly accessible.
