The Scottish Big Cats site reproduces a July 1997 report by Dr Christina Smith. Lothians and Borders police were alerted when the gamekeeper shot at the animal, which fled. Officers from Haddington searched the area with locals and could not find any sign of it. Police advised the public not to approach the animal on the grounds that a wounded cat might be dangerous.
The article adds general comment that people had claimed to have been attacked by such animals on at least six occasions in the past ten years. That is a claim of the reporter and is not supported by detail. The site is near Sancta Maria Abbey at Nunraw, near Garvald.
