This is a family ghost story recorded in the 2019 Orkney article. Charlie Clouston said that around fifty years before the account was written, when he was 14, he saw a shape about three feet long with a white streak down the middle bounding across a field at Nisthouse. His dog chased it. His friends saw nothing.
The legend behind it is that Joseph Clouston had brought a woman from the Gold Coast of Africa to Orkney, that she died and was buried in the corner of the field, and that her ghost troubles members of the Clouston family only.
The story is told as hearsay and the source gives no record of the woman, so treat her identity as unverified local tradition. The pin is placed in Harray parish as the exact field is not stated.
