The Big Cat at Ormiston and Beanston

Also known as: Beast of Lammermuir

Limeylands Crescent, Ormiston

June and July 2001

The East Lothian Courier and Edinburgh Evening News, quoted by the Scottish Big Cats site, said the creature was the size of an Alsatian, sleek and black with some white on the coat. Mrs Ainslie said her dog, Gemma, cowered and went silent, and that she saw it again a few days later in a field near George Crescent. She said she was sick with fear afterwards.

The second sighting was by a night shift guard at Beanston Mains at about ten in the evening. He described a large puma-like creature in front of his car, which fled when his headlights came on. Police checked gardens nearby and found no paw marks. Edinburgh Zoo staff were quoted saying it could be a large feral cat and advising people not to approach.

The pin is at Ormiston and is approximate.
