Marion Ritchie in Bedroom Five at the Cross Keys

The Cross Keys, Northgate, Peebles

Landlady of the late seventeenth or eighteenth century; reports undated

Mysterious Britain describes the Cross Keys as a coaching inn dating from 1693 in the centre of Peebles. It says bedroom five is haunted by a woman called Marion Ritchie, the first landlady of the inn, who is reputed to have died there. Scott is thought to have visited and modelled Meg Dods in his Waverley novels on her. The haunting is said to have a lot of poltergeist like activity, though no incidents are described.

This is a short single source entry with no witnesses or dates. I have not verified the identity of the landlady or the 1693 date.
