The Ghost Laid in the Red Sea, near Peel

A house near Peel (not identified)

About 1850s

About sixty years before Cashen wrote, a young man near Peel died in a way that people thought was not natural. They suspected he had been murdered. Afterwards his spirit haunted a particular house, disturbing and terrifying the people who lived there.

In the end they sent for a Roman Catholic priest, because it was believed that priests had authority over spirits. The priest went through the house walking backwards and reading from his book, and he banished the ghost to the Red Sea. The family had peace from then on.

The house is not identified.
