The Pregnant Puma at the Roslin Gunpowder Mills

Derelict gunpowder factory between Roslin and Rosewell

Summer 1979

The account comes from Ronnie Patterson's Scottish Mystery Cat Sightings as reproduced on the Scottish Big Cats site. Jenkins saw the animal out of the corner of his eye, shouted, and it turned to give him a clear view, at not more than six feet. He said it was the colour of a golden Labrador with white showing through and had a black bar crossing its face. It stopped again a few yards uphill and turned to look at him. He then noticed that it seemed to be pregnant.

The same page notes that a female puma had been at Edinburgh Zoo, and that there was a report of a puma at Fountainhall in Midlothian in early 1982. The coordinates are approximate and taken from Roslin Glen, where the gunpowder works stood.
