The Lodge Gatehouse, Sandy

The Lodge, Sandy

Undated

The gatehouse at The Lodge, the estate at Sandy that today houses the RSPB's UK headquarters, carries a reported history of paranormal activity that sits somewhat unexpectedly alongside the site's modern institutional role as the base for one of Britain's largest wildlife conservation charities. One witness described being followed inside the gatehouse by a man dressed in distinctly nineteenth-century clothing, an encounter unsettling enough to be remembered and repeated afterward.

Staff working at the estate have separately reported strange noises within the building after the working day closes and the offices empty out, a pattern of activity reported independently of the nineteenth-century figure and not obviously connected to him in any of the accounts gathered.

No further detail, date or named witness accompanies either strand of the reports beyond this brief account, leaving the gatehouse haunting as a genuinely thin but nonetheless persistent piece of local paranormal tradition attached to an estate now far better known for its birds than its ghosts.

The Lodge is the RSPB's working headquarters; the gatehouse itself is not a public visitor area, though the wider nature reserve grounds are open.
