The Black Dog of Bunting Nook

Also known as: Bunting Nook black dog

Bunting Nook, Norton, Sheffield

Last reported 2007

Mysterious Britain quotes a Star article by Alex Evans of 26 October 2015, "Halloween: Sheffield's Top 10 most haunted places revealed". It says the dog has dark black fur, snarling fangs and eyes blacker than the dead of night, and that it roams the streets around Bunting Nook in Norton hunting for men in the dark. The huge dog appears in an instant in front of cars. It targets men: it is not the driver who is at risk but the passenger, as the dog makes the car stall before attacking him. It was last sighted in 2007.

Icy Sedgwick adds that the dog is said to have large eyes, loping around the lane and turning to mist if threatened. Hello Rayo's South Yorkshire list says residents meet a beastly dog-like figure late at night and that a couple killed in horse accidents haunt the lane, but the horse and couple story is a separate tradition from the dog.

No named witness, date other than 2007, or incident is given for the dog. It belongs to the family of Yorkshire black dog stories, and the stalling car detail is a modern motif. A separate entry covers the black dog of Taplin Road in Hillsborough.

A residential lane in Norton near Graves Park.
