The Highland Ghost of Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle

Reports through the 20th century; photograph said to date from 1935

Several haunted-places guides repeat the same core story. A man in traditional Highland dress is seen among ordinary tourists and looks so natural that people assume he is part of the visitor experience. When someone goes to speak to him he turns and walks off, and vanishes in front of them. Haunted Rooms gives the date of 1935 for an architect's photograph in which the figure is said to appear on the negative as well.

The Highland Ghost is also blamed for footsteps and voices that people report hearing in the castle. The photograph is described in the sources but not reproduced, and none of them name the architect, so the claim rests on the guides repeating one another. It is included as a traditional castle ghost with one specific but unverified detail.
