The Changeling of Tyrie

Tyrie parish, near Fraserburgh

Recorded 1881

Gregor's chapter on fairies and changelings gives this and other tellings. Another story in the same chapter has a fisherwoman left alone in bed with her baby when a little man dressed in green came in and laid hold of the baby. These are told as things that happened, often to a named neighbour, but no names or dates are given.

Changeling belief is usually explained by sickness or disability in children, but this record is of the belief.
