The Young Man Taken by the Hosts for a Broken Tryst

The machair of Uist (no specific place given)

Undated oral song

The young man was 'lifted', and when moving with the hosts in the sky above the girl's house he was heard to sing, 'Morag, will you hold battle with me, are you tonight for the promise, for the tryst, for the battle, and the arrow is fast towards you.' The song gives the broken pledge a deadly tone.

The sluagh, the hosts of the restless dead who fly at night, take people in Hebridean tradition. Carmichael prints the Gaelic verses and a translation but gives no date or village.
