The Waterston Lady

Also known as: The Spectral Lady of Waterston Road

Waterston Road, between Llanstadwell and Waterston

Late 20th century to 2015

Waterston is a small village on the road between Neyland and Milford Haven, above the oil and gas terminals on the Haven. The lane from Llanstadwell up to Waterston is, according to the local paranormal website Pembrokeshire Beyond, home to the most often reported ghost in the county.

She is an old woman in a ragged dress, said to give off a faint blue glow, walking along the roadside. Some reports have her holding a bundle of rags. Another describes a second ghostly woman holding rags, which may be the same figure. She is usually seen late at night, most often between ten and one on weekend nights, and drivers who pass her say she is simply there, then gone. The same road has reports of a phantom horse and carriage.

Pembrokeshire Beyond published a fresh sighting in April 2015 under the heading "She's back", and a more recent podcast has retold her story. None of the sources offers a name, a date of death or a story of who she might have been, and all the accounts are from motorists and passers-by passed on at second hand. She is included here as a genuine piece of local modern folklore rather than a documented case.

Waterston Road is a public road between Neyland and Milford Haven; take care, there is little verge.
