The Crying Child of Callanbridge

A house near Callanbridge, Armagh (exact address never published)

1988

A 1988 article in a local Armagh newspaper, headlined "Crying Child Haunts House, Says Family", described two households who left the same property inside five days. They blamed the cries of an infant, heard in the small hours, and a persistent banging on the walls. One family called the atmosphere oppressive.

The final tenants were a pair of newlyweds who had just moved in. They lasted less than 24 hours and left at 12.45 am. Before going they called a local priest, who is said to have declined to go into the part of the house where the crying was heard, saying only that he did not want to disturb anything.

The exact address was never published and local people have long guessed at the house and at the cause of the crying. Because it is a family home that may be occupied, no location beyond the Callanbridge area is given here.
