The Devil at Auldearn Kirk

The old kirk at Auldearn

1662 confession

The kirk scene is the central diabolical episode in the confessions and follows what interrogators expected, a pact with the Devil, a mark, and renunciation of baptism. The Survey of Scottish Witchcraft records the details, including that she said each witch had a spirit that waited on them, hers being named the Read Reiver and dressed in black. She also said the Devil gave them money that turned into horse dung.

The site of the old kirk was in the village. The coordinates give the settlement only.
